ForeverInspired's Review Violence / Gore: Log Horizon has battles, but they aren't very violent - looks more like an arcade game in my opinion. Also, you have the fact that the characters can't die and are "revived" at the local church. That being said, slapstick violence happens especially when a certain ninja gets mad at another character (normally, the violence is limited to kicking him so hard that he flies). Nudity / Sexual Content: This series really doesn't have anything for this area except the bathing suits that they briefly wear during the series. Potentially problematic theological themes: With this being a game, there are some magical powers in the series. Other potentially problematic themes: There is mild drinking. FINAL VERDICT: At first, Log Horizon was being always compared to the controversial SAO. To be honest, the only thing that is similar is that both stories revolve around people being stuck in MMORPG games. This series definitely doesn't have those "too exciting and engaging" moments that SAO has - but it also doesn't have SAO's lows. This series has a lot going for it. The characters in this series are very lovable and some may surprise you with their smart minds. Oh yes - if there was one trope that was pronounced with these characters, it is that the glasses mark the smartest and scariest (not in a dark way though) of the characters. The pacing of the plot is very well done. The MMORPG concepts are delved into more than in SAO. The music is great, and the opening is very catchy. The atmosphere is very pleasant and sweet. The colors are vivid, and the art is nice. Like I said before, a very solid series. The few qualms that I had don't add up to much, but they are still there. The romance triangle that they had to make up within the last 5 episodes was kind of annoying. More importantly, I know that the people are hoping to get out of the game world and living as best they can in it, but I sometimes have to question whether the people truly are in earnest to leave. I don't understand why they show no concern for their "real" bodies. This part in SAO made more sense to me - the bodies aged here. I guess you can say that Log Horizon isn't concerned with tying the game and real worlds in at least the first season. Maybe the second season will clear some things up. To sum it up, this is a good and solid watch that is easy to recommend and enjoyable to see if you get over trying to understand its links to reality. |
