As this is a period piece set in England, drinking and tobacco use are fairly common. Beyond that, there is very little about this show that anyone should find objectionable.

I would recommend this anime to anyone who loves Jane Austen. It is a pure english romance, period. If you don't like that proper, slower kind of relationship, this will bore you. If you do, you're in for a treat.

One of the great things about this series is how appropriate it is. No violence beyond one slap to my recollection. The closest to sexual content is one Indian man having some Indian women lounging around with him (all of them clothed, and nothing inappropriate really suggested), and seeing the outside of a brothel at one point, but no one goes in and besides knowing it was a brothel, there is nothing inappropriate. If there is language, it's very limited. I don't remember any. The Indian man would be the only source of religious question, since i think he has a Buddha statue or something, but it's never talked about.

Basically, it's all very appropiate, which I appreciated greatly. The artwork might not be the most beautiful, but it's very fitting of the characters and place. Emma is a loveable Heroine, and I enjoyed her character greatly. The end is a drop off, but that's why there's an excellent second season that you can also read a review for :)
