Brief Description:
Shimogamo Yasaburou is a tanuki and the third son of the Shimagamo family, who lives in Kyoto, along with humans, tanuki, and tengu. As Yasaburou takes care of his teacher, an old tengu, fights with other tanukis, and plays with a psychic human girl, he approaches the truth about the circumstances around his father's death, who was eaten in a hot pot by human members of a group known as the "Friday Club".

Violence / Gore: A few brawls and the Friday Fellows traditionally eat a tanuki hot pot at their year-end function. Little to no blood.

Nudity / Sexual Content: There is some innuendo and sexual jokes, especially when it comes to Akadama sensei or the Ebisugawa twins. Benten strips naked to go swimming in one episode and Yasaburou, Yashirou and Akadama visit a bathhouse, nothing more than people's bottoms are seen.

Theological Themes: The existence of mythological creatures and their various powers of flight, shapeshifting etc. A conversation is held between two characters after one of them has apparently died. The characters visit a shrine.

Negative Themes: Cigar and cigarette smoking and alcohol use. Akadama sensei gets drunk at least once. One case of kidnapping, shown in flashback.
