Brief Description: Released 2007 Studio Madhouse 26 episodes (with 26 episode sequel season) No US licensing Kaiji's life is getting nowhere fast. He's barely scraping by at a minimum wage job. When liquor and cigarettes don't do it for him, he goes out and steals the emblems off of luxury cars. Worse still, he's just found out that he's on the hook for a debt he co-signed for a roommate that has since disappeared without a single payment, and with all the interest that has piled up, it's an insurmountable sum for Kaiji. However, the debt collector gives him an unusual option: participate in a game against people in similar straits, and if he does well, his debts will be forgiven. If he loses, his debts will still be forgiven, but he'll be forced to do a couple years of hard labor to do so. Seeing no other choice, Kaiji accepts the deal and finds himself contending in a bizarre and dangerous series of underground gambling games to get himself solvent.
